Bus/pedestrian collision downtown

On May 12th at approximately 12:10 p.m. an adult male suspect stole a donation jar from a local business on 3rd Avenue downtown and fled on foot.  As he was fleeing, he ran across the 800 block of 3rd Avenue and was struck by a Metro Coach traveling southbound.  At the time of the collision, no one was chasing the suspect.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Metro bus driver attempted to stop, but could not avoid striking the suspect.  No passengers on the bus were injured.

The suspect was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

There were no citations issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in traffic collisions requiring extensive follow-up investigation and collision reconstruction.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
