On May 18th, just before 8:00 AM, Seattle Police responded to the 900 Block of 1st Avenue to assist the Federal Protective Service with a call. A man with a bag approached a couple of FPS officers outside the loading dock of the Federal Office Building and indicated that he wanted to show them something inside the bag. When the officers looked inside the bag, it appeared there was a weapon and an explosive device. Officers detained the individual and left the bag on the loading dock, then called Seattle Police. Seattle Police responded to assist with traffic control and the Arson Bomb Squad also responded. ABS detectives were able to examine the contents of the bag and determine that they did not pose a threat. It appears that the weapon seen was an “Airsoft” pellet-type pistol. The surrounding streets were reopened at approximately 9:30 AM. The Federal Protective Service will now handle the investigation.
