
The 2011 Law Enforcement Torch Run will be coming through Seattle on Friday, June 3rd. Seattle Police will receive the torch from Shoreline Police at 9:00 A.M. at Aurora Avenue North and North 145th Street. The Seattle portion of the run will end at approximately 10:30 A.M. in front of Seattle Police Headquarters, 610 5th Avenue, where the torch will be passed to KCSO.
This statewide torch run is held each year prior to the opening of the Special Olympics of Washington Summer Games. Officers carry the “Flame of Hope” across the state in a relay that culminates with the Summer Games’ opening ceremonies at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
There will be minor traffic impacts, alternate routes are encouraged. SPD will pick up the torch at 145th and Aurora Av N and run it to Denny Way. At Denny, the route veers left on to 5th Avenue S/B. The route continues S/B on 5th Avenue to Cherry where the torch will be passed off to King County Sheriff Sue Rahr.
