On June 20th, at approximately 5:45 AM, a cab driver stopped at Rainier Avenue South and South Rose Street to pick up two female fares. Moments later, two males jumped into the back seat. The driver got out of the cab to confront the two male suspects, when another male jumped into the driver’s seat of the taxi. The cab driver went back to the front of the cab and attempted to reach into the open window to grab the keys from the ignition, but the suspect punched the victim in the face twice. The other men in the back were shouting for the suspect to drive off and go. The cab quickly accelerated and, because the steering wheel was turned, the vehicle crashed into the side of an apartment building in the 8100 Block of Rainier Avenue South. The suspects all got out of the cab and fled on foot. Patrol officers quickly arrived to the scene and contacted the three suspects in the 4500 Block of South Kenyon Street. Both the victim cab driver and female witnesses positively identified the three suspects. The suspects were arrested and transported to the Robbery Office. The suspects, ages 18, 20 and 21, were interviewed by detectives and later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery. Robbery detectives will have the responsibilty for the continuing investigation.
