Seattle’s Finest participate in the Relay for Life

Seattle’s Finest is a group of Parking Enforcement Officers who are fighting back against cancer by participating in the Relay for Life, a national fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. The 2011 Relay for Life walkathon took place on June 11-12. Because cancer never sleeps, at least one team member had to be walking laps around a track from 3:00 pm, Saturday to 9:00 am, Sunday, for a total of 19 hours. The team, in conjunction with generous help from many, many members of SPD, raised approximately $4,000 for the American Cancer Society in 2011. Over the last two years, Seattle’s Finest has now raised a total $10,000.

In addition to raising money for the American Cancer Society, Seattle’s Finest also raised money for “Robert”. Robert is a 5 year old boy, the son of a childhood friend of team Co-Captain Nohemi Gardea. Robert was diagnosed with leukemia in June 2010 and has been hospitalized for much of the time since then. Thankfully, Robert is now in remission but will require 3 years of extensive chemotherapy.
