Fatality collision downtown

On July 23rd, at approximately 3:50 AM, West Precinct officers responded to a collision scene at 7th Avenue and Union Street.  The vehicle, with four occupants,  had just come off the Union Street exit at a high rate of speed and crashed into the concrete wall, causing the car to flip onto its roof.  The car then proceeded to slide on its top for approximately a block and a half and collided with three parked taxi cabs.  One of the cabs was occupied, but the driver of that cab was not injured.

When the vehicle finally came to rest it was still on its top.  The driver and a rear seat passenger were partially ejected through the door windows.  The other rear seat passenger died as a result of the collision.

Seattle Fire Department responded and treated the occupants at the scene.  Medics transported the three injured occupants to Harborview Medical Center.  Two have life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Sqaud (TCIS) responded and will be responsible for the follow up investigation.  The roadway was closed for several hours while detectives conducted their investigation.  The roadway was reopened at 9:00 AM.
