On August 21st at approximately 2:50 p.m. officers responded to the report of a stabbing near 3rd Avenue and Pine Street. Preliminary investigation indicates that both the adult male victim and the adult male suspect were riding on a Metro bus that was traveling northbound on 3rd Avenue. The suspect had already been involved in several altercations with several different citizens (not involving the victim). At one point the suspect threw an empty beer bottle at a citizen who was exiting the bus and hit the citizen in the head with the bottle. That citizen continued on and did not notify police that he had been assaulted.
The victim’s stop had arrived and he was trying to get his mother and the rest of his family off the bus when the suspect instigated a verbal altercation with the victim. When the victim walked away from the suspect the suspect pushed and kicked the victim in the back. The victim tried to ignore being assaulted however, an unidentified female suspect (who was in the company of the male suspect) began striking several of the victim’s family members. The victim then began to defend himself and his family and found himself in a fist fight with the male suspect.
At that time the bus came to a stop, the doors opened and the physical altercation between the male suspect and victim spilled onto the sidewalk in the 1600 block of 3rd Avenue. The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim at least twice before fleeing the scene on foot. Multiple witnesses called 911.
Responding officers located and arrested the suspect near 4th Avenue and Olive Way. A folding knife with a 3.5 inch blade was recovered from the suspect’s front pants pocket. The knife was subsequently booked into evidence.
The 30-year-old male victim, a Seattle resident, was transported to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) by SFD medics with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 38-year-old male suspect, also from Seattle, was transported to HMC by ambulance for treatment of cuts to his hand he sustained while stabbing the victim.
Upon completion of his hospital treatment, the suspect was booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.
The female suspect remains at large. She is described as a black female, 22 to 29 years of age, 5’5″ tall and weighing approximately 300 pounds.
Anyone who may know the identity or whereabouts of this female suspect is asked to call 911 or the Seattle Police Homicide Unit at (206) 684-5550. Anonymous tips are welcome.
