On 9/8/11 at approximately 9:31 a.m. construction workers saw a subject climbing underneath the I-beams below the Edgar Martinez overpass. Officers responded and saw this individual “cat-walking” on the edge of the I-beams, about 40 feet above the rail tracks. Officers attempted to make verbal contact with the subject and he did not respond. Crisis Intervention Officers responded and attempted to get the subject to come down. SWAT also responded and staged in the nearby area.
The subject eventually positioned himself on the I-beam so that he was no longer dangling over the below train tracks. Train traffic resumed and a short time later the subject jumped from the I-beam, to a moving train below. The train stopped and officers were able to take the subject into custody. The subject was transported to Harborview Medical Center for a much needed mental health evaluation.
