The citywide and precinct Major Crime statistics through August of 2011 have now been posted to the SPD website.
Year-to-date, Major Crimes are down citywide by 7% when compared with the first eight months of 2010. This continues the downward crime trend that occurred citywide in 2010. Through August of 2011, Violent Crime is even with the same time period in 2010, with robberies trending down and homicides, rapes and aggravated assaults showing an increase. Property Crimes are down 8% across the city in the first eight months of 2011, when compared with the same time period in 2010. Vehicle thefts and larceny/thefts are trending down while burglaries are up slightly.
