On 10/5/2011, at approximately 8:40 a.m., Mayor Mike McGinn, Safe Kids Seattle, FedEx, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Police Department, Feet First and parent leaders from Graham Hill Elementary walked with children to school to advocate for safer walking environments for children. Following the walk to Graham Hill Elementary, Mayor McGinn was the keynote speaker during a school assembly that focused on pedestrian safety.
Safe Kids USA and participating schools held more than 1,000 International Walk to School Day activities as part of the Safe Kids Walk This Way pedestrian safety program. For the twelfth year, Safe Kids coalitions teamed up with hundreds of FedEx volunteers to teach children how to be safer pedestrians as they walk to and from school and raise awareness around specific pedestrian dangers or issues in their community.
