On October 28th at approximately 1:30 p.m. officers responded to the 200 block of Garfield Street for 911 reports of two kids armed with rifles near an elementary school. Patrol and SWAT team officers responded to the scene and subsequently surrounded the school, while others conducted an area check for the subjects. Officers entered the school and conducted a thorough search of the building and roof while accompanied by school officials. Although the school was “locked down”, classes continued while the well-received officers conducted their search.
Officers located the subjects in question, who were found to be in possession of Airsoft rifles (not firearms). The rifles were seized and placed into evidence. The three juvenile males were interviewed and released to a parent pending further investigation.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident and no shots were fired. At no time were the three boys inside the school.
