Elderly pedestrian struck by vehicle

On 11-04-11, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a green mini van was backing out of a residential driveway at NE 55 and Princeton Av NE, when it struck an elderly female who was walking on the sidewalk.

The impact forced the elderly woman to fall onto the roadway where she struck her head and sustained critical injuries.

The van was occupied by an adult male driver and an adult female passenger.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire Department Medics for potentially life-threatening injuries and she was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

A Drug Recognition Officer responded to the scene and screened the driver for evidence of possible drug/alcohol impairment.  No obvious signs of impairment were noted.

Traffic Collision Investigators responded, processed the scene and impounded the vehicle as evidence.  The Investigation continues.
