Officers catch burglar red-handed

On 11-27-11, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers were on the roof of a parking garage on the Northeast corner of Boren Ave N and Thomas Street looking down at several of the construction sites for suspicious activity. The officers work this area and was aware of several commercial burglars who had been breaking into the construction areas on weekends and nights.

The officers observed the suspect standing on the inside of a fenced area belonging to a construction company in the 20o block of Boren Ave North. They saw the suspect throw rolls of insulation over the fence, outside of the construction site. They then saw the suspect throw a power saw in a case over the fence and on to the insulation. The suspect then climbed the fence to the sidewalk.

The officers contacted the suspect on the sidewalk and placed him under arrest. A roving security guard for the site arrived and verified that the site was closed and that the suspect did not have permission to be on the site or to remove property from the site.

The 31-year-old suspect also had a Burglary 2 warrant. He was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary in addition to the warrant.
