Serious collision in 4800 block of 4th Avenue S

On February 2nd at around 6:45 a.m., South Precinct patrol officers responded to a report of a serious collision in the 4800 block of 4th Avenue S.  This portion of 4th Avenue S is elevated as it crossed rail road tracks.    Upon arrival, officers discovered a three vehicle collision with serious injuries.  Seattle Fire medics responded as well to provide emergency treatment to the injured.  Preliminary investigation suggests that an adult female driving a Mazda Protege was travelling southbound on 4th Avenue S.  It appears that she may have crossed the center line and clipped a garbage truck travelling northbound.  The Mazda then lost control collided with a second northbound garbage truck.

The adult female of the Mazda was transported by medics to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of life threatening injuries.  The adult male driver of the first garbage truck was not injured.  The adult male driver of the second garbage truck was transported by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of non life threatening injuries.  None of the involved vehicles had passengers.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives have responded to process the collision scene and search for evidence.  They will be responsible for completing the investigation.

The information in this post is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation proceeds.
