On March 2nd officers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Squad inspected 10 trucks. One truck was taken out of service for an unsecured cargo container on its trailer. The following is a synopsis of the enforcement actions taken:
Driver Violations: 4 (2 citations, 2 warnings)
Failure to inspect emergency equipment – 1
Failure to inspect trailer – 1
No seat belt – 2 citations
Truck Violations: 23 (all warnings)
Unsecured fire extiguisher – 3
Defective lights – 1
No reflective tape on mudflaps – 5
No battery cover – 1
Defective clearance lamp – 2
Air brake leak – 1
Air lines rubbing on deck – 2
Defective headlights – 1
Power steering fluid level insufficient – 1
Headlamp not properly mounted – 2
No windshield washer fluid – 2
Loose fuel cap – 1
Reflective tape missing on rear of cab – 1
Trailer Violations: 7 (3 citations, 4 warnings)
4400 lbs overweight – 1 citation
Unsecured load – 1 citation – “Out of Service” Violation
No registration – 1 citation
Tire pressure below minimum – 1
Intermediate light out – 1
Defective brake lights – 1
Identification lights out – 1
The documented violations will be forwarded to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and will count as “strikes” against the company, the driver and the carrier.
