Seattle Police have arrested two suspects in a late-night street robbery in the University District.
On March 2nd the three victims were walking near 25th Avenue NE and NE Blakely Street when a group of men in a silver Audi pulled up next to them. A group of suspects got out of the car, punched one of the victims and shoved another, before they stole the victims’ cellphones, wallets, and one man’s hat. The suspects then drove off.
Initially, robbery detectives didn’t have many leads in the case. But a tip from a detective in SPD’s Gang Unit led police to the two robbery suspects.
“There wasn’t much to go on and it probably would have stayed that way,” if not for the help of a Gang Unit detective, says SPD Robbery Unit Sergeant Kevin Aratani.
Detectives arrested one of the suspects Monday afternoon after he appeared in court on an unrelated case. The other suspect was arrested over the weekend as part of a burglary investigation in the North Precinct.
Both men are currently being held at the King County Jail.
