On May 4th at approximately 9:00 p.m. officers responded to the 400 block of Broad Street for a suspicious circumstances call. Witnesses observed a male suspect dressed in all dark clothing pulling a duffle-type suitcase on wheels. The suspect then left the suitcase on the sidewalk against a low retaining wall almost directly in line with the Space Needle entrance. After carefully situating the suitcase the suspect ran away quickly in an unknown direction. Space Needle Security staff checked the suitcase and could not see anything protruding from it. Security then called 911.
Once on scene officers notified the Arson/Bomb Squad (ABS) who subsequently responded. ABS detectives screened the contents of the suitcase and determined that it contained only clothes and sound speakers.
This remains an active and on-going investigation.
