On May 14th at approximately 12:27 p.m. a victim in a hit and run vehicle collision called 911 to report that their vehicle along with two other vehicles was struck in the 4000 block of Aurora Avenue North by a suspect driving a Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The adult male suspect driving the Toyota truck failed to stop at the collision and fled the scene, remaining at large for just over an hour.
At 1:37 p.m. the suspect from the hit and run collision on Aurora Avenue North, still driving the same 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, was traveling eastbound on NE 50th Street from Brooklyn Avenue NE at a high rate of speed. The Toyota pickup collided with a gray 2011 Nissan Cube that was emerging from the south mid-block alley between University Avenue NE and 15th Avenue NE. The force of the collision caused the Nissan Cube to roll over onto its passenger side.
SFD medics responded to the scene and transported both adult male drivers to Harborview Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries (both vehicles were occupied by the drivers only).
Officers evaluated the suspect/driver of the Toyota pickup truck for signs of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (DUI). Signs of impairment were detected and the suspect was processed for suspicion of DUI. A blood draw was completed with results pending laboratory analysis.
Officers determined through investigation that the Toyota Tundra pickup truck was an unreported stolen vehicle (the registered owner of the involved Toyota truck called 911 to report his vehicle stolen at 3:39 p.m.).
There were no citations issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in serious traffic collisions requiring extensive follow up investigation and collision reconstruction.
Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
