Rainier Beach shooting, detectives investigating

On May 16th, just before 8:30 pm, South Precinct officers responded to a shooting  in the parking lot of the Jack in the Box restaurant in the 9100 Block of Rainier Avenue South.  There was a large crowd gathered in the parking lot at the time of shooting, and although many people fled the scene immediately, there was still a sizeable crowd remaining in the parking lot and some in the crowd were hostile to the presence of police, making it difficult for officers to get in to the victim. Officers were able to finally get to the victim, a male in his twenties, lying on the ground in the middle of the parking lot.  Seattle Fire responded and transported the vicitm to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.  Detectives from the Homicide and Assault Unit and CSI responded to the location to begin their investigation.  Detectives are speaking with some potential witnesses, but believe that there may be more witnesses to the shooting that may have fled when the shots were fired, and have not yet talked to detectives.

Detectives would like to speak with anyone who may have been in the parking lot at the time of the shooting.  You can contact detectives by calling the tipline at (206) 233-5000.  This is remains an active and ongoing investigation.
