Planning to attend “Family 4th at Lake Union”? Tips for motorists

Please plan your travel accordingly and bring a healthy dose of patience if you get stuck in pre/post event traffic.

Tomorrow Seattle Police will be out assisting with crowds and traffic in and around Gasworks Park in preparation for this year’s Family 4th at Lake Union. The annual event is very popular, and the weather is predicted to be decent, so there could be crowds of 45,000-50,000 in the park.

The park will open at noon, and police will begin street closures in the neighborhoods north of the park from N. 40th Street and south to N. Northlake Way will close to all except motorists needing local access.

Motorists should expect heavy congestion in the neighborhoods surrounding Lake Union, especially at the end of the fireworks show when everyone will be trying to leave the park at the same time.  One suggestion is to try and head west toward Aurora Avenue North, instead of immediately toward I-5.

The Aurora Bridge will close to foot and bicycle traffic during the fireworks show. However, Metro buses will be providing free shuttles for pedestrians to get across the bridge.  The bridge will remain open for motorists during the fireworks show.  The fireworks show is scheduled to begin around 10:00 pm.

Have a safe and happy Fourth!
