Armed 14-year-old robs man of his iPhone

Quick responding South Precinct officers captured a 14-year-old armed robber on South Beacon Hill.  On July 18th, 2012, at approximately 5:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to an armed robbery call near Benefit Park.  An adult male was walking through the park when he was approached by a teenage male who displayed a handgun he had in his waist band.

The teen took the victim’s iphone and head phones and left southbound and connected up with two other males.  Officers arrived on the scene within three minutes of the robbery occurring.

Officers spotted the suspects on Carkeek Ave S, three blocks from the robbery scene.  As officers approached the suspects, they saw one of them throw something into the bushes. Officers made contact and detained all three suspects.  The victim was brought to the scene and identified the robber.

Officers located the victim’s headphones in the bushes.  To locate the iphone, one of the officers called the number; other officers heard it ringing about 10 feet from where the headphones were located.  Both items were returned to the victim.

The three subjects were transported to the South Precinct. The 14- year-old suspect identified by the victim as the robber was booked in to the Youth Service Center. The other 2 subjects were investigated and released from the Precinct.
