Police arrested two people Tuesday evening after anarchist protesters unfurled a banner and tossed a homemade smoke bomb onto a busy downtown street.
Around 5:30 pm, officers saw the pair drop a banner—sporting a message about grand juries and witch hunts, and an anarchist symbol—over the side of the fifth floor of a parking garage at Third Avenue and Pine Street.
The protesters then tossed a homemade smoke bomb down onto Third Avenue, along with a number of pamphlets.
Officers surrounded the garage, stopped a man and woman inside, and had a chat with the pair about the dangers of throwing smoke bombs onto busy streets.
Officers released the man and woman after interviewing them at the West Precinct and held the banner, fliers, and smoke devices as evidence.
