This morning, just before 6:00 am, a West Precinct patrol officer attempted to pull over a truck near 2nd Avenue and Battery Street after the officer witnessed occupants inside the truck throwing out items. The officer activated his emergency lights in an attempt to pull over the truck. The driver refused to pull over, instead making turns and driving down alleys. The truck increased speed and began to pull away from the officer. The officer shut down his emergency equipment and broadcast the description and direction of the truck for other officers. The truck drove northbound through an alley at a high rate of speed when it collided with a car driving westbound in the 300 Block of Wall Street. The impact of the collision forced the vehicles into the corner of an aparment building on the north side of the street.
Seattle Fire Department responded and had to extricate three people from the truck. They were all transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was also transported to HMC, but had only minor injuries.
Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigaion Squad (TCIS) responded and will conduct the investigation. Wall Street between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue will be closed to traffic while detectives are conducting their investigation. This remains an active and on-going investigation.
