Boat collision leaves one man dead. Today, just shortly after 4:00 p.m., a 16-foot boat and a 44-foot boat collided with one another in the waters of Puget Sound off Shilshole Bay Marina. Both occupants of the 16- foot boat were thrown into the water as a result of the collision.
The occupants of the larger vessel rescued both occupants of the smaller vessel. Squamish Tribal Police were fueling their boat nearby and arrived on scene very quickly after the collision. SPD Harbor patrol and Coast Guard responded. Both involved vessels were brought to the dock at the Marina to perform the initial investigation.
A 76-year-old occupant of the smaller boat succumbed to his injuries as a result of the collision. The second occupant was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
A DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) evaluated the adult male operator of the larger boat, no signs of impairment were observed. TCI (Traffic Collision Investigators) responded and assisted with processing the scene.
It is unknown at this time what preceded the collision. The investigation continues.
