Suspicious Parcel Prompts Dual Police/Fire Department Response

A Seattle Times employee calls 911 after receiving a suspicious parcel at work.  At approximately 3:38 p.m. officers and fire department personnel responded to the Seattle Times building at 1000 Denny Way for a call of a suspicious package containing an unknown powdery substance.  Seattle Police Arson/Bomb Squad detectives and Seattle Fire Department hazardous material specialists responded to the scene as well to conduct their investigations.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a female employee received a parcel at the Seattle Times building.  When she opened the parcel she saw a powdery substance and immediately called 911.  Police and fire personnel contained the area the parcel was in and upon further examination determined the parcel was harmless.

There were no injuries or contamination to any employees, police officers, or fire personnel.

Arson/Bomb Squad detectives continue to actively investigate.
