Officer-Involved Collision Downtown

A patrol officer was injured in a collision with a truck downtown today.  At approximately 1:53 p.m. a uniformed officer driving a fully marked Seattle Police Department patrol car was responding to a traffic collision involving injuries with his emergency lights and siren activated.  The officer was traveling northbound on Fairview Avenue North and as he entered the 1100 block a large truck pulled out of the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center’s driveway and collided with the patrol car.  The collision forced the patrol car onto a planting strip where it came to rest.

The officer was transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.  Due to the damage caused by the collision, the patrol car was towed to a city garage for repairs.

There were no citations issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in traffic collisions requiring extensive follow up investigation and collision reconstruction.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
