A downtown building was struck with a suspicious substance by a male suspect on a bicycle early this afternoon. At approximately 1:21 p.m. a witness observed an adult male suspect on a black bicycle throw a suspicious substance at the front of The North Face building in the 1000 block of 1st Avenue. The suspect yelled something and then fled the scene on his bicycle. The powder had an odor that resembled that of fecal matter.
Seattle Police Arson/Bomb Squad detectives and the Seattle Fire Deparment’s Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Team responded and processed the scene. SFD determined that the substance was not a hazard to humans.
The street was shut down for approximately 90 minutes while police detectives and HAZMAT specialists conducted their on-scene investigation.
The suspect, who remains at large, is described as a white male in his 20’s to 30’s, wearing all black clothing and riding a black bicycle.
Anyone with information about this incident or who may know the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call 911 or Seattle Police and refer to this incident. Anonymous tips are welcome.
This remains an active and on-going Arson/Bomb Squad investigation.
