Audio and Photos from North Seattle Officer-Involved Shooting (Updated)

In conjunction with a scheduled 11:30 am press conference on the fatal officer-involved shooting of Jack Keewatinawin in North Seattle Tuesday evening, the Seattle Police Department is providing a series audio files and photos from the incident.

Tuesday evening, police received two separate calls from Keewatinawin’s brothers, who told 911 dispatchers their brother was holding a knife to their father’s throat at his North Seattle home. One brother described the incident to a dispatcher as a “hostage” situation.

Audio of those 911 calls can be downloaded here and here (Note: the first file contains profanity). Audio of SPD radio traffic prior to the incident can be downloaded here.

During the incident, Keewatinawin brandished an 18-inch piece of rebar, which led three officers to open fire, fatally wounding him.

Following the shooting, police collected the rebar and two other weapons found at the scene as evidence:

The Seattle Police Department Homicide Unit is still actively investigating the incident, and the three officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave, which is department procedure following an officer-involved shooting.
