Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) are investigating a collision between two vehicles that left several people with serious injuries yesterday on Aurora Avenue North.
Just before 4:30 pm, witnesses stated that a Lincoln Town Car was travelling northbound on Aurora Avenue North at a high rate of speed. At about the same time, a Hyundai SUV was attempting to turn northbound onto Aurora from Winona Avenue North.
According to witnesses, the Town Car sped through a red light and collided with the Hyundai.
Seattle Police and Seattle Fire both responded to the scene. The driver and passenger in the Hyundai were treated at the scene and transported to Harborview Medical Center for serious injuries. The Lincoln driver was also transported to HMC for his injuries.
The driver of the Lincoln was evaluated at the hospital for any signs of impairment by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer. Detectives from TCIS responded to the scene and began their investigation. The northbound lanes of Aurora Avenue were shut down during the investigation for several hours, but have since reopened. This remains an active TCIS investigation.
