Two suspects tried to rob the newspaper delivery man. This morning just shortly before 7:00 a.m., the victim was outside of his van at 9th NE and NE 48th St when two suspects accosted him and one suspect attempted to twice snatch his key ring away from him.
The victim managed to fend off the suspect and then went to his van to retrieve his cell phone. The suspect then grabbed the victim from behind tearing a satchel the victim was wearing. The victim again managed to fend the suspect off. The suspect fled with the other man.
Officers located one suspect nearby and detained him. The victim positively identified him as the suspect who tried to take his keys and assaulted him.
Officers saw the other suspect in the area, but the suspect fled through yards and over fences. Containment was set up and with the assistance of a citizen’s report officers were able to locate the suspect hiding in an alcove.
The victim identified him as the other party present during the robbery. Upon further interview with the victim, he reported that the second subject had not participated directly in the robbery or assault and may have been trying to dissuade the main suspect.
Suspect 1 was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.
The victim had no injuries.
