A 42-year-old man was arrested early this morning after he was detected by a security officer rummaging through a car inside a secured building garage.
Just before 6:00 this morning, a security officer saw the man enter the building in the 2900 Block of 1st Avenue without an electronic key, which is required for all tenants. The security officer then located the man inside a parked car inside the secured garage. The man was searching through the car. When confronted, the man stated that he was a visitor and then quickly left the garage. The security officer called 911 to report the incident and provided a description of the suspect.
West Precinct officers responded immediately and located the suspect nearby. He was arrested after he was positively identified by the witness. The 42-year-old suspect is actually well known to West Precinct detectives as he is suspected of dozens of car prowls and is believed to be the suspect in a Belltown burglary last week. The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary. Detectives will be responsible for the follow up investigation.
