Stamping out crime is part and parcel for Seattle police. That’s why, early this morning, officers arrested a man in south Seattle with stolen vehicle and hundreds of pieces of stolen mail, a clear violation of the letter of the law.
Just before 7 AM this morning, officers were in the area of 46 Avenue South and South Holden investigating a narcotics complaint involving a black Honda. A South Precinct officer found the Honda, ran its plates and discovered the car was stolen. When the officer tried to his car around to pull in behind the Honda, the driver sped off.
Officers followed the Honda through the neighborhood, catching up to the abandoned car—which was left running—near 44th Place South and South Rose Street. Officers located the suspect a short distance away, and after a brief foot chase, took the 34-year-old man into custody. When officers searched the car, they found large bag filled with what appeared to be hundreds of pieces of stolen mail. The Honda was impounded and the case will be forwarded to detectives.
Officers then made an express delivery to the King County Jail, booking the suspect for Investigation of Auto Theft and Possession of Stolen Property.
