A man and a woman remain hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times by a male suspect downtown.

On Friday, September 13th at approximately 10:32 p.m. officers responded to a 911 call of two people stabbed near 3rd Avenue South and South Jackson Street.  Preliminary investigation indicates that an adult male and adult female were walking in the 300 block of South Jackson Street.  The woman was suddenly confronted by an adult male suspect who produced a small knife and began stabbing the woman repeatedly in the torso.  The man she had been walking with attempted to intervene and the suspect turned on him and began stabbing the male victim repeatedly in the neck and torso.

Officers from the SWAT and Gang units arrived on scene first and contacted the suspect, who was standing near the victims still holding the knife.  The suspect dropped the knife and was taken into custody without further incident.  Officers recovered the knife and placed it into evidence.  There are no suspects outstanding.

Fire department medics responded to the scene and transported both victims to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.  The victims remain under treatment at the hospital.

Investigation indicates that the suspect is a stranger to the victims and that the attacks were unprovoked.  The circumstances surrounding the assaults remains under active investigation however, there are indications that the suspect was operating at a diminished mental capacity.

Homicide and CSI detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
