Officers locate and arrest aman who was involved in beating and robbing another man downtown this morning.
At approximately 6:38 a.m. officers responded to a 911 call of five black males assaulting a man at 3rd Avenue and Yesler Way. Officers arrived within a minute of the call to find a male victim lying half on the sidewalk and half in the roadway with onlookers. Although there were people in the immediate area, nobody came forward to talk to the officers nor did anyone admit to seeing anything.
Eventually a witness came forward who saw the suspect and several black males attack the victim after the victim refused to give up his backpack. The suspect struck the victim several times on the face and head area with a stick, knocking the victim to the ground. Four or more suspects may also have jumped in and kicked the victim while he was down.
Fire department medics responded to the scene and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center with a possible life-threatening head injury.
Several of the involved suspects got on a Metro bus and headed south. Metro was advised and police were notified that possible suspects were let out at 12th Avenue South and South Jackson Street. Officers quickly responded and detained two subjects. The primary suspect was positively identified by a witness and placed under arrest.
The 19-year-old male suspect was subsequently booked into the King County Jail for Felony Assault and Robbery. The other suspects remain at large.
Anyone with information about this incident or who may know the identity or whereabouts of the remaining suspects is asked to call 911 or Seattle Police and refer to this incident. Anonymous tips are welcome.
This remains an active and on-going investigation.
