Undercover detectives noticed an increase in security at the venue hosting the Freaknight rave this year. However, detectives were still able to buy MDMA, hallucinogenic mushrooms and methamphetamines in and around the WaMu Theater during the event on Friday and Saturday nights.
Detectives arrested more than a dozen people for drug sales during the two day event, including a 17-year-old girl, who was carrying 225 crystal meth capsules and 36 MDMA (or “molly”) pills.
Police have not yet fully tabulated the number of pills and other drugs seized during the weekend event, as several cases are still under investigation.
Uniformed officers also kept busy during Freaknight:
Patrol officers also contacted an 18-year-old woman around 2 AM Saturday morning, after they spotted her smoking marijuana in an alley outside the venue while two of her friends stood on lookout. Officers contacted the trio, took the teen’s marijuana and pipe (marijuana possession is a no-no for people under 21), and called her mother, who said she thought her daughter was at a sleepover.
In possibly related news, officers also responded to a hotel at 5th and Union at about 4 AM Saturday morning after receiving a report that a man, clad only in his underwear, was running up and down the hallways on the 20th floor of the hotel.
When officers contacted the man—who could not remember his own last name—he told police he had taken MDMA and “maybe some other stuff.”
Medics transported the man to Harborview for medical treatment.
