A scooter operator was seriously injured in a collision early this afternoon downtown. At approximately 1:51 p.m. officers responded to a car/scooter collision at the intersection of Boren Avenue and Marion Street. Preliminary investigation indicates that a motorist on a Vespa scooter was southbound on Boren Avenue crossing Marion Street. A Honda sedan was turning onto westbound Marion Street from northbound Boren Avenue. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Fire department medics responded to the scene and transported the scooter operator to Harborview Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers evaluated the driver of the Honda for indications of impairment due to alcohol and/or drugs. No impairment was detected.
Southbound Boren Avenue was closed to traffic between Madison Street and Columbia Street until approximately 4:30 p.m.
There were no citations issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in serious traffic collisions requiring extensive follow up investigation and collision reconstruction.
Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
