Update: The suspect was taken into custody shortly after 7:00 am without incident. The suspect will be booked later this morning into the King County Jail. The streets surrounding the residence should be reopened shortly.
A man believed to be armed with a machete is refusing to surrender to police after threatening a roomate and a friend at his house early this morning.
At approximately 2:18 a.m. officers responded to 911 calls of a disturbance at a residence in the 1700 block of South Pearl Street. Two adult male subjects made contact with officers outside the residence and reported that the 23-year-old male suspect, who was still inside, had threatened them while holding a machete. The two victims, a roomate of the suspect’s and a visiting friend, were not injured. The only person believed to be inside the residence is the suspect.
Patrol officers made numerous attempts to get the suspect to come outside. Officers called the suspect on his cell phone and spoke to him over their patrol car’s public address system however, the suspect has refused to come outside and surrender to police.
Officers have the residence surrounded. Negotiators and SWAT officers have responded to the scene to assist in getting the suspect to surrender peacefully.
