A group of citizens pursued and tackled a purse thief yesterday and returned a woman’s stolen property to her.
On April 12th at approximately 5:50 p.m. officers responded to MLK Jr. Way South and South Myrtle Street for the report of a strong-arm robbery. Preliminary investigation indicates that the female victim was walking at MLK and S. Myrtle St. when an unknown male suspect grabbed her purse and fled. Citizens pursued the suspect on foot and tackled him. The citizens were able to get all the victim’s items back from the suspect. They then let the suspect go before officers arrived on scene, and the suspect fled westbound on foot. The suspect was described as a black male in his mid-teens, last seen wearing a tan jacket with a gray hoodie.
Responding officers contacted the victim however, she didn’t want to document or pursue the incident any further since she got her property returned.
