Officers responded to a report of shots fired early this morning and stopped a car with five people inside leaving the area. As officers were investigating the call, they located a gun hiden in the bushes nearby and about a dozen spent shell casings at the scene.
At around 5:00 am this morning, someone called 911 to report hearing shots fired near the intersection of 12th Avenue South and South Main Street. A couple of East Precinct officers were in the area and quickly responded. The officers saw a car with five occupants speeding away from that intersection and stopped it at 12th and South Jackson. As the officers were conducting their investigation, they saw a single bullet on the front passenger seat. The officers also searched the immediate area around the car and located a handgun in the bushes. Officers then located shell casings back at the original scene. The car appeared to have a bullet hole in the rear bumper, so it was impounded to the processing room. The gun and shell casings were collected and submitted into evidence. There were no reported injuries or other damage. The men in the car, all in their twenties, were identified and released from the scene pending further investigation.
