Police Seize Guns, Drugs Following Belltown Gunfire

Officers seized several guns early Saturday morning after catching up to a car seen speeding away from a shooting scene in Belltown.

West Precinct bike officers were patrolling Belltown at 2:30 a.m. on July 12th when they heard gunshots in the 2300 block of 1st Ave. At the scene, a witness pointed to a green Chevy Caprice as it sped away. Police then found a dozen bullet casings from several types of guns, and discovered several buildings and cars had been struck by gunfire. Thankfully, no one was injured in the shooting.

A few minutes later, East Precinct patrol officers pulled the Caprice over near 21 Ave. and East Union St. While officers couldn’t immediately tie the driver to the shooting, they confirmed the man’s identity and released him from the scene.

After getting their warrant, officers later searched the car and found an AK47, two loaded magazines, one loaded .38 caliber revolver, a scale, small bags, and 25.5 grams of marijuana. Officers seized the guns and pot and have turned the case over to detectives.
