Boat Collision on Lake Washington with Two Injured and One Deceased (Update)

(Update) The man piloting the motorboat in last night’s boat collision, a 46 year-old from Renton, has been booked into King County Jail on Homicide by Motorcraft. Further charges may be pending in this ongoing investigation.

A 24 year-old female died as a result of her injuries sustained in a boat collision on Lake Washington that sent two others to the hospital.

Around 10:30 p.m. Seattle Police Harbor Units and patrol officers responded to a reported boat collision which occurred about one-half mile off shore of the 400 Block of Lake Washington Blvd in Leschi.

The two involved boats, a motorboat and a sailboat, were both disabled during the collision. A passing boater towed the disabled sailboat to a dock in the Leschi neighborhood. Firefighters met the victims at the dock, and began treating the injured persons. Sadly one of the passengers on the sailboat died from injuries sustained in the collision. Two others were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Seattle Police Harbor Units towed the motorboat to the same dock. The Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to the scene and will be leading the investigation.

Though no arrests have been made, the possibility that alcohol may have been involved in the collision is being investigated.
