Officers Arrest 19-Year-Old Driver After Car/Motorcycle Collision In Madrona

Police arrested a 19-year-0ld driver following a collision in the Madrona neighborhood Monday afternoon, which left a motorcyclist with serious injuries.

Officers and medics responded to E Pike Street and Martin Luther King Jr Way just before 1 pm Monday after receiving reports a driver had collided with a motorcyclist. At the scene, firefighters freed the motorcyclist—a man in his 30’s—from under the vehicle and transported him to Harborview Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

After contacting the 19-year-old driver at the scene of the collision, a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer developed probable cause to arrest the man. Investigators will now obtain a warrant and collect a sample of his blood for further impairment testing.

Police are still interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence at the scene but, so far, investigators believe the driver pulled in front of the motorcyclist as he was driving southbound on MLK Way near Pike Street.

Traffic Collision detectives are investigating the incident and traffic in the area will likely be impacted for some time.
