Officers Chase Down Downtown Laptop-Snatching Suspects

Officers arrested two suspects in Downtown Sunday evening after they robbed a man for his laptop and tried to flee from police.

The victim was waiting at a bus stop 300 block of Pine St. at about 9 pm when the 21-year-old suspect snuck up behind him.  The suspect ripped a brand new laptop out of the victim’s hands and ran onto a waiting Metro bus.

When the victim tried to follow the suspect, the suspect’s 17-year-old female accomplice stepped in his way.  The teen pushed the victim and held him back until the victim shouted that he was calling 911.  The suspect exited the bus and ran away while the victim called police.

Officers on patrol in the area saw the suspect—still carrying the victim’s new-in-box laptop—and followed him as he ran into a restaurant in the 300 block of Lenora St. When officers contacted the suspect inside the business, his female friend once again appeared and tried to intervene.

When officers briefly turned their attention to the 17-year-old suspect, the 21-year-old man ran out of the restaurant.

Officers chased the suspect for about three blocks, to the 2000 block of 5th Avenue. There, officers arrested the suspect, who had made a feeble attempt to hide from police underneath a car.

After reuniting the victim with his laptop, police booked the 21-year-old suspect into King County Jail for robbery. Officers also arrested and booked his teenaged accomplice to the Youth Service Center for robbery, narcotics charges and a warrant.
