A 45-year-old man is fighting for his life after being stuck by a Sound Transit train in the SODO neighborhood.
Officers were called to Occidental Ave South and South Horton Street around 5:45 PM for reports of a man struck by a train. The injured man has been rushed to Harborview Medical Center with potentially life threatening injuries.
At present the train is stopped at the scene of the collision blocking South Horton Street, which bisects the railroad line. East and westbound traffic on South Horton Street may be blocked for considerable time during the investigation and all motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Rail commuter traffic is also expected to see delays as a result of the incident.
Sound Transit police are responding alongside SPD’s Traffic Collision detectives who will be leading the investigation. BNSF engineers will also be assisting with the police investigation.
How and under what circumstances the collision occurred are under investigation now.
