One man was seriously injured Thursday after an apparent road rage incident sparked a fight between two drivers on Rainier Avenue.
Officers responded to the 9400 block of Rainier Avenue S. shortly before 10:30 AM after receiving a report of two men fighting in the road.
Police believe two drivers became embroiled in an apparent road rage incident before pulling over and exiting their vehicles on Rainier Ave.
One of the drivers–a 46-year-old Seattle resident–returned to his vehicle, only to have the other driver–a 49-year-old man from Olympia–approach his car and begin pounding on the windshield.
The 46-year-old man began driving away, apparently catching the other man’s leg in his wheel, knocking him to the ground.
The 49-year-old Olympia man was seriously injured in the incident and was transported to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries.
SPD Traffic Collision detectives and drug recognition experts arrived at the scene to investigate the incident and arrested the 46-year-old Seattle man for vehicular assault.
Police are still investigating the incident and will have portions of Rainier closed through the afternoon.
