A 44-year-old man with a backpack full of heroin was unable to outrun a team of bike officers Tuesday after he threatened another man with a gun in downtown Seattle.
Officers were called to the 1500 block of 3rd Ave just before 5 PM after receiving reports of a disturbance outside a restaurant. A man told officers the suspect had approached him and opened his jacket, revealing a handgun. The suspect then threatened to shoot the victim before getting in a car and leaving the area.
Bike officers weren’t able to immediately find the suspect, but spotted him an hour later, about two blocks from the scene of the dispute. The suspect attempted to run from the officers, but made it less than a block before police caught up to him and took him into custody. Officers searched the suspect and found 74 individual packages of suspected heroin, weighing over 7 grams in total. They were not able to locate the firearm the man reportedly flashed during the dispute.
Officers booked the suspect into King County Jail for threats and narcotics charges.
