Thousands Visit Downtown for Black Friday Festivities and Demonstrations

Seattle Police officers were positioned throughout the downtown core today to provide public safety services to those attending a scheduled Black Lives Matter demonstration as well as those gathered for the Westlake Holiday Tree lighting ceremony.

Hundreds of peaceful demonstrators took to the streets and protested peacefully.

However, officers did respond to isolated skirmishes outside of Westlake Center and Pacific Place, resulting in minor property damage and the arrest of four people. In one case, a bicycle officer dislocated his shoulder when people in the crowd interfered with an arrest outside of Pacific Place. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

The evening culminated in the the lighting of the Westlake Holiday Tree, the Macy’s Star, and a fireworks display.

In other news, the Huskies soundly defeated the 20th ranked Cougars by a score of 45-10.
