Officers recovered a pair of pistols Thursday night after receiving reports of a group of teens trespassing and smoking pot at a Rainier Beach apartment complex.
Just before 8pm police arrived at the apartment the 8700 block of Rainier Avenue South where a resident pointed out the four juvenile boys in a stairwell and informed officers they did not live in the complex.
When officers followed the scent of marijuana up the stairwell, the group of teens spotted them and took off running. Officers caught up to three of them and found a .45 pistol at the bottom of the stairs where one the teens, a 16-year-old, had been sitting.
Officers searched the 16-year-old and found a loaded .357 handgun in his pocket. Police discovered the 16-year-old, who is not of legal age to possess a handgun, is also a convicted felon, making it doubly illegal for him to have one.
Police found a small bag of marijuana on one of the other teens, a 14-year-old, who also had a felony warrant for his arrest.
Officers booked the 14-year-old and 16-year-old into the King County Youth Service Center and released the third teen from the South Precinct.
