Police Seize Pistols, Rifles In Arrest of Two Wanted Men

A joint team of police and federal authorities arrested two wanted gang members and seized four firearms Monday after a brief foot chase in the Georgetown neighborhood.

Members of the SPD/Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Gun Crime Taskforce spotted the two suspects–both men, 18 and 34-years-old–in a black Lincoln LS the 6700 block of Corson Avenue South around 1 PM and moved to take them into custody.

Police arrested the 34-year-old–who was wanted by the US Marshals for a violation of federal probation–at the car, but the 18-year-old ran leading officers on a brief foot chase. Police were able to catch up to the teen, and found two handguns along the path he had taken. They also found the 34-year-old man was wearing a holster on his hip and was carrying a loaded magazine.

Investigators found one of the handguns was reported stolen, and later seized two hunting rifles and ammunition after serving warrants on the suspects’ car and home.

Detectives booked the 34-year-old man, who is a convicted felon, into jail for unlawful possession of a firearm, and booked the 18-year-old for a misdemeanor warrant.

SPD is working with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and US Attorney’s Office on the continuing investigation.
