Suspect Found Hiding on Roof After Central District Break-In Early this Morning

Officers were able to talk a 19-year-old man off a roof and into custody after he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment, violating a court order.

Officers had responded to the apartment in the 1500 block of East Yesler Way last night around 9:40 pm.  The victim  reported that the suspect had climbed in her window and assaulted her, and then fled on foot when officers arrived.

About two hours later, the suspect returned and climbed in the same window, again assaulting the victim.  The suspect then grabbed a knife and cut his wrist threatening to kill himself.  The victim was able to get away and call 911.  Officers arrived and observed the suspect on the roof of the apartment building.  Negotiators arrived,  opened a dialog with the young man and convinced him to climb down from the roof.  He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the hospital for treatment.

When he is released from the hospital he will be booked into jail for burglary, felony violation of the No Contact Order, and several outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

King County Sheriff’s Guardian One was overhead and assisted officers with this incident.
